EPSU send solidarity greetings to its Italian affiliates on strike today

(6 September 2011) The European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU) sends a warm support message to those workers striking today in Italy against the Government's latest austerity plan.

As in Spain today, the plan follows the requirements of the European Central Bank (ECB), amongst other things the reduction of the budget deficit to 1.4% of output by 2012 and to 0% by 2013.

These proposals will put in danger the funding of local authorities and public services, as all austerities packages have done across Europe since the break out of the financial and economic crisis: targets public sector workers that are not responsible of the crisis.

The action today is a 8h Strike in all sectors call by the CGIL with demonstrations in dozens of cities.

EPSU hopes that these actions are successful and help to stop these unfair austerity measures.
