EPSU Youth Network supports global Climate Strikes

(25 September 2020) Today, all across Europe young people are - physically or online - again protesting for a liveable future. The message is clear: Decisive measures must be taken now to reach the obligations in the Paris Agreement and limit global warming to 1,5°C, otherwise the effects of climate change will be irreversible and drastic.

Where the common interest must prevail over the logic of short-term profit, the future lies in strong public services. Public service workers in emergency and rescue services, the energy, water and circular economy sector, local and regional government as well as firefighters are central to both fighting the causes of climate change and increasing resilience in our societies against its effects.

We as young European workers in these sectors have a right to be involved in making the decisions that fundamentally shape our future. We demand a just transition that ensures that young workers have access to the training and the skills we need to be ready for the green jobs of the future.

Combating climate change and ensuring a just transition is above all a matter of international as well as generational justice and solidarity. For these reasons, the EPSU Youth Network is supporting the global strikes and encouraging all young workers, students or apprentices to participate and get involved, be it physically or online.
