Lithuanian Trade unions demonstrate in Solidarity with Euro demonstration

(5 October 2010) Expressing solidarity with the European trade unions’ demonstration on September 29 in Brussels the Lithuanian Trade Unions’ Confederation, the Lithuanian Labour Federation, the Lithuanian Trade Union "Solidarumas" and the Lithuanian Journalists' Union were inviting citizens to announce their position against the growing unemployment, wage reduction, rising prices and the emigration of young people.

Lithuanian trade unions were organizing the peaceful pickets in Vilnius near ministries and employers' organizations buildings, in front of the Vilnius municipality and other towns across the country. Participants marched along Gediminas Avenue while visiting the starving police officials who started their protest action on September 22.

EPSU expressed their solidarity with the public services workers that are demonstrating and protesting against cuts.

Since the Vilnius Municipality did not give the permission for meeting to take place in front of the Government, a peaceful meeting was organized near the building of the Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation reducing the possibility of citizens to demonstrate.
