Workers in the central state sector have backed a new collective agreement that runs until the end of January 2010. The agreement will include three pay increases over the period of 3.5%, 2.5% and 2.0%.

Pay deals agreed in municipal and state sectors
Unions in the state and municipal sectors have managed to secure improved offers from the employers. In the municipal sector there will be a 1.2% rise on 1 May 2011 plus 0.8% for local negotiations. In addition, a €100 bonus for many employee groups - will be paid in May. Overall, the cost impact of the agreement is 2.4%, in line with the projected rate of inflation. The agreement expires at the end of 2011. In the state sector wages and salaries will be raised by 1.3% backdated to 1 February 2011. On 1 May 2011 there will be a locally negotiated increase of 0.5% and 0.2% as an equality
Pay deal agreed in regional government
Public sector unions, including ver.di, have secured a pay increase for 800000 regional government workers after four rounds of negotiations. Pay will rise in two steps with a 2.1% increase backdated to 1 March 2015 and then 2.3% on 1 March 2016. There will be a minimum increase of €75 a month so that the overall increase will average 4.83%, with the lowest paid getting more than 6%. In Hessen there separate negotiations for the 45000 regional government workers and warning strikes took place around the region on 13 April to support ver.di and the other unions in their 5.5% claim. Private sector deal agreed for most workers
The main private sector collective agreement has been finalised and will provide minimum pay increases of 1.2% in 2010 and 1.8% in 2011. Local bargaining will mean further increases on top of these minima. The agreement runs until 31 March 2012 and is important in relation to the two public sector agreements for state and municipal workers where bargaining will begin towards the end of the year to renew the agreements by 1 April 2011.
