After difficult and lengthy negotiations and strike action, the FP-CGIL, FIT-CISL and FIADEL trade unions have signed a new collective agreement in the private waste sector for the period 2011-13. The deal will mean an overall pay increase of around 7.7% or €134. The unions were concerned to maintain the sectoral agreement in the face of legislation to liberalise the industry and pressure to decentralise bargaining.

Non-profit sector deal finally signed
The threat of strike action by a common front of unions in the non-profit (health, housing and social services) sector in the Wallonia region of Belgium paid off last month. Employers in the sector finally signed the agreement that had been concluded between the unions and the regional government at the end of 2006. Employers finally ratify private health sector agreement
The employer organisations in private healthcare - Aris and Aiop - have finally ratified the sector agreement covering 100000 workers. After three years of negotiations an agreement was finalised in June but the employers suddenly stepped back from ratification. Following demonstrations and a national strike on 16 September along with pressure from the health minister and regional authorities, Aris and Aiop confirmed that they would ratify the agreement. Pay agreement in private waste sector
After a series of warning strikes the services trade union ver.di has secured a new agreement with the BDE employers' organisation covering 20,000 workers in the private waste industry. The agreement runs until 30 April 2010 and workers get a basic increase of €50 from 1 May 2008 plus 2.8% and then a further 3% increase on pay from 1 May 2009. A lump sum of €100 is to cover the period between 1 January and 30 April 2008 - the previous agreement ran to 31 December 2007.
